POI files are Point of interest files which can come in a variety of formats.
Some are available for download on the internet, some from certain forum websites. The forum websites usually require you to be a member to be able to download. In addition to the already installed POI's in the RNS-510 you are allowed to add up to 20 more categories. Each category can contain several individual files. If you are familiar with a Garmin GPS, you can also install waypoints in this manner.

I do not know if any other built in GPS's use DB3 files, but here is a VW website in German where you can convert any GPX, CSV, ASC, KMZ or KML files into a DB3 file. In other words it lets you convert your own files into the DB3 format which the RNS-510 can read.
This is the German VW website:

And of course since this is a language not everyone speaks, here is a website "BRISKODA.NET" with translations and instructions into English. IGNORE any LINKS in his website to the VW site, they DO NOT work anymore. It took me a bit of searching to find the correct VW site posted above.

You cannot install Red Light Camera's and Speed Cameras into the RNS-510, it will NOT show them on the map! You install these DB3 files using a full size SD card, but it can be a small 125kb card since these DB3 file do not take up much room on the card.
