My Golf recently developed a rough idle and a mild shudder at lower RPMs, my dealership took a look at the cams and said that they are worn as expected for a BEW at 160K. They quoted me over $3K for the cam but suggested that it would likely cost $9K because the head and injectors would probably need to be replaced too mentioning some kind of engineering shortcoming that makes the injectors not fit after they have been removed.
How likely is it that the injectors and head would need to be replaced?
Is the design/manufacture of this engine/head so bad that it can't reach 200K?!
