When I got back to the shop to fill out my paperwork, I went to move my personal car and let it run for a few minutes so it would cool down. After doing so, I shut it off, went inside and clocked out. When I went to start the car my key wouldn't turn. This sucks cause I drive 60 miles each way to and from work.
I tried to turn the steering wheel, but could barely do it. The car was definitely in park. I have noticed over the past couple of weeks when I would go to start the car that it felt a little loose when doing so. Like something was off, but it would still fire right up, so I didn't think much of it. I did not have a key to try a spare, but I don't think this was the issue.
This same problem happened to my older Pontiac a few years back, so that's why I think it's the ignition switch.
I ended up using the VW Roadside assistance that we got via the diesel scandal. The tow truck was an hour late, but they towed it to the dealer, which was good. I left the keys and now will have to call them in the morning.
If it is the ignition switch, any ideas what I would be looking at? I can buy the part for around $150, so I'm assuming they'll charge me about $300, then I'm sure they are going to charge me at least two hours, so after all is said and done, I'm thinking about $750. If this had broken down in my drive way I'd of done it myself to try to fix it, but I was 60 miles from home. :(
This is the first issue we had with the car after 7 years of owning it. That's not bad, but it is just bad timing for me. Hopefully it isn't anything else major.
