Early 2005 jetta tdi throttle position sensor question

Early 2005 jetta TDI BEW PD. Goes into limp mode. throttle position sensor is saying to reader that throttle position is all over the place then sticks on almost full throttle, then shuts down into limp mode. Meanwhile the throttle pedal is actually working perfect. How can the throttle sensor be reading all crazy but the engine be getting the proper message?
