Hello all, my brother just gave me his '03 Jetta (1.9 and manual if that contributes) as a graduation present from college, because of some financial struggles. I drove from Houston, TX, to Wake Forest, NC, with no radio nor AC lol. It was pretty rough. My friend and I are new to VW, and diesels, and we could not find a decent schematic to help us on the internet, the Chilton manual doesn't really help either, and I think we've done everything we can (that we can at least think of) before dropping the fans, and also the compressor.
Basically, I wanted some more experienced ppl to weigh in on what may be going on, and whether or not I'll have to take it to the shop. I'll do my best to explain what is going on, and what we have checked, so I apologize for bad terminology.
Neither of the fans come on in the front of the car (radiator and AC??) and the clutch does not engage, either.
-fans move easily, so I assume they are not seized.
-Car has freon
-We checked the 3 fuses in the box on the drivers side in between the door and the dash wall. Weren't blown, but replaced them for good measure.
-Also checked the 3 fuses in the battery box. All good.
-Continuity was good from the top of the battery box (where fuses went in) to the jack. It checked good, so I don't think it's the box.
-Checked for power at the jack, as well. 12-13 VDC, I believe, is what we got.
-Replaced HVAC Aux fan control module. We thought this would fix it, because there was serious water damage in there, causing both rust inside of it, and corrosion on the connectors. Just tried it, no luck.
-Metered pwr going into the clutch connector. That was a few days ago, but I believe we got 8 VDC.
-I believe we metered the clutch coil correctly, and we metered 3.8 ohms, which videos on youtube said was correct.
-**We just did this step, so we're a little further than when I started typing this lol. We aren't getting power to the fans, apparently. We pulled the connectors apart to meter it out, and there was a massive amount of water, but drying it out didn't fix it. Then we metered for power at all three wires (no schematic means no clue) and we got no power at any of them. But like I said above, there is power coming out of that bus bar on top of the battery. Is the thing to do at this point just continue shooting wires, by removing the battery and its shelf to get up in there? That seems like it'll be a hassle, since we'll probably have to start cutting up wire bundles in order to trace and shoot.
I'm not sure how to get back here, or check on updates or anything, so is it okay to put down my email? I don't want to break any rules, but I also don't want to have to just keep refreshing until someone responds. Thanks for the help.
