2013 Touareg TDI. In for DEF heater replacement (still covered under emission warranty at 100,000 miles :).
Dealer says there is also a "Software Update" that should be performed (not related to the DEF issue). When asked, they explained in minimal detail that it decreased the sensitivity of the computer warning system so that unnecessary concerning issues would not trigger the check engine light.
Questions:
1. Does anyone know what else this "Software Update" does/is for?
2. Is it necessary for the $100.00 charge?
At this time I am scheduled for the DEF fix and unrelated "Software Update" next week. I am considering cancelling the "Software Update" as I have not any issue with unimportant check engine light triggers. If that is all it's for, why do it?
...unless someone on this forum has other information on the necessity of the "Software Update"?
