Changing serpentine belt only, not tensioner

samedi 17 juin 2017

Is this going to cause an issue for me to change just the serpentine belt temporarily? The belt is broken and so the alternator won't work and it dies after a short time. I'm planning to get it down to a tdi guru in the next week or two, but I'd rather drive it instead of tow it.
I bought a dayco serpentine belt from advance auto parts and will be putting it on tonight as long as there won't be any ill effects from not changing a tensioner at the same time. I'm planning to get the full timing belt kit done, so this belt will only be on the car for two weeks at most.
I'm guessing there won't be any sort of issue from doing it this way, but I wanted to get other people's experience here.
