Thanks to some forum advice......looks like I'm adding a car......

Posted over in the wrong forum looking for advice, but the essential jist was "buy that.....now." So I made a deal today:

2005, GLS (I believe, it has the sunroof and heated seats) TDI obviously. 225k miles and upon initially looking at it was told it needed a turbo and that's it. Showed it to a friend who I thought might be interested, he passed, but I kept falling back to it because of it's condition.

Went back today and poured over it with a fine tooth comb. Interior is excellent for mileage/age, very little to complain about (scratches and scuffs on drivers arm rest, cracking on top of shifter boot, minor stuff). Exterior, the hood and front bumper could stand to be painted, but the rest of the car would buff out very nicely. Couple of minor dings, one chip on a door with a spot of rust that will touch up fine. Started it (yes, we made sure it had oil), and other than the smoke out the exhaust, it was great. Fired right up, no strange sounds (was specifically listening for the BEW cam to lifter slap), AC worked, and ZERO fault indicator lights on the dash. It LITERALLY needs a turbo. Nearly new Michelin tires with a 1916 date code even.

So.....picking it up cash in hand on the 12th of July due to vacation schedules for the lot/owner and ourselves. $2140 including sales tax out the door.

Plan is to VNT-17 Turbo first and foremost. For the extra $100 why freaking not do that? EGR and cooler delete and Malone Tune. My best friend is upgrading out of his MKIV Golf so I'm getting the shifter from his car. Will probably upgrade the headlights to a HID projector setup, update the stereo to something with bluetooth functionality, and may go so far as to have the hood and bumper painted. NONE of which I'll benefit from. I am sticking with my 12 SEL Passat TDI, this one is for my wife and kids to get around it, and we can get rid of the Chrysler Pacifica we've owned for the past 9 years, and are simply tires of getting 15/19 on fuel economy with.
