Recently bought a 2004 VW Jetta Wagon with 200K+ miles. Drives very nice. Has a few issues that I'm working through. This one has me stumped as to what to do. The speedometer is off by approx 30% -- i.e., it will show 60, when going 45 and show 90 when going 70. I checked the speed using Torque. Using Gps & obd2 -- they're pretty close.
I also checked the odometer against some mile-markers and it is working correctly.
The speedometer does return to the 0 mark once the car stops.
So ... what is going on? Is there a fix? Should I replace the instrument cluster?
In the meantime I purchased a HUD speedometer that works off of GPS.
