2003 Jetta Mk4 TDI. I'm chasing a seemingly never ending problem with my A/C. I turned it on in June and it didn't blow cold. A/C compressor clutch wouldn't kick in so I jumped it directly using a 12v battery from a cordless drill. From there I started the car & added some R134a to proper pressure, around 36psi. I then reconnected the power to the compressor, started the car and the clutch, again, wouldn't engage. I measured the voltage coming to the A/C compressor and it's a 6.4 volts. When the 12v batter was jumping the A/C clutch the air blew ice cold, so the compressor is in good shape.
To shorten the story up a bit I've replaced the following things with new components: A/C Pressure switch, Fuse box battery terminal (the one that mounts to the top of the battery), Electric fan control module, Climate control unit (the one onside the car under the stereo). Car is still blowing warm air & A/C clutch not engaging, still measuring 6.4 volts.
I've checked the fuses and found something very odd, when I remove the 10a #16 fuse the cooling fans turn on. Plug the fuse back in and the fans turn off again. Seems very odd.
Please, for the love of German engineering, HELP! I live in the desert SW and it's swealtering hot this summer.
