My daughter was home for Labor Day weekend this past fall and I noticed her front pads were worn. Not having the luxury of time to order from one of the preferred tdiclub vendors, I bought pads and rotors off the shelf at Advance Auto. Not overly cheap ($165 for front pads and rotors) for sure.
I saw her this past Friday and she said her brakes didn't feel right. Sure enough, I took it for a drive and hit the brakes at 50 MPH and the car shakes badly from what sure feels like warped rotors. (Most of the front suspension parts have been replaced in the last 1-2 years.)
What's going on here? Is it crappy parts? Is there really a major difference in aftermarket rotors and pads? Her driving is in the NC mountains which may be harder on brakes than driving in, for example, Kansas.
Are there rotors that you guys recommend that hold up better than others? Do I need to upgrade the calipers? She is coming home in August for a week and I want to get a plan together to address it now.
