Good morning fellas,
I'm performing my first TDI timing belt service on the wife's 01 Beetle. I've got the flywheel marks correctly lined up with the bell housing (with #1 valves closed), camshaft and crank are both locked. Before I removed the timing belt I decided to see how close I was on the injection pump pin. It required very little effort to go in so I left it for the time being. After removing the timing belt and pulleys my paranoia got the better of me noting how it is possible to pin the IP in the wrong hole. So I began playing around and found the other hole to the left. In other words, I had to rotate the IP counter clockwise to pin "the other hole". According to everything I'm reading the first hole I had pinned was the incorrect hole but I'm not sure I could have gotten the other hole with the belt on still. I have pictures to show both orientations but the bottom of the page says I am not permitted to post pictures? I will work on that but in the mean time I would love to hear some experienced opinions before I proceed. I know there is an abundance of that here :)
Thank you as always
JR
