Need help in MD with a Passat B3 AHU swap

mercredi 7 juin 2017

Looking for someone in the DC/MD area that could help troubleshoot some issues with the running/driving swap and then help me pump it up a bit...

It's a 1991 Passat wagon that’s had an AHU/5sp swapped in. AHU is reportedly stock except for an “economy” chip of some sort and I put a straight 2.25” exhaust on it (old exhaust was rusted out).

Car runs and drives fine (have put a couple thousand miles on it) but seems very slow; acts like fueling goes away much above 2500rpm (had a bad MAF... I first crossed over with a resistor to confirm... made more power than with bad MAF (which was showing a reduced voltage output at higher airflows) but still not what I expected. The new MAF is making basically the same level of high rpm power as the resistor... better than the bad MAF but still not good. Showing about 14psi boost.

This is my first VW diesel since my old 1.5 Rabbit and I don’t really have the right tools or basic knowledge to deal with it.

If I could find someone interested in working on it, here’s what I’m interested in having done:

1. Troubleshoot the current power situation.
2. Hook up glow plug system (car came from FL; they didn’t bother with making the glow plugs work)

and then based on what they find possibly

3. Set of larger injectors and a chip. Not wanting huge power, but something in the 120-130 range would be great...
4. Bonus would be having a working cruise control system! Was not installed with the swap even though they managed to keep the AC working! (No working tach either...)

thanks!
