Looking to get into my first TDI - I have been looking at an 03 Jetta Wagon Manual. Mileage - 197k.
When I test drove it, I wanted to see how it handled on hills (as my work commute is up a pretty significant hill, 5+ miles 6% grade) - and it felt like the car went into limp mode. It had almost no boost in 4th gear and started to slow to essentially 50 mph. We crested the hill, got off on the exit, went down the hill, and tried again - same result and even getting onto the on ramp (steeper on ramp) it felt sluggish/no boost.
I am assuming that it could be any of the issues that would cause it to go into limp mode (if that is what happened, as it seemed to drive fine on the flats) - i.e. clogged intake manifold, leaky vacuum tubes, N75 issues, etc.
Knowing that some of these types of services need to be done, and the rest of the car is in fair/good condition - what would be a good price??
