Need Limp mode assistance. Lad next door bought his first car a 2003 VW Golf TDI 1.9. Only one owner relative with every record and receipt. Car had sat for weeks (old man Previous Owner got new car)
Sadly after a week dreaded “Limp” mode is now an annoying constant.
VW will run fine until after 30+ minutes of highway driving (50-60 mph) when VW exists freeway onto Normal Street driving (20-25 mph) the VW will go into “limp” mode.
CEL is on, a simple scanner (Scan gauge) shows no codes. If VW is turned off and left to sit for 3-15 minutes, the VW will drive fine until next jaunt onto freeway.
CEL is still on , no error codes shown on simple Scan guage.
To recap-the VW will go into LIMP mode after car is driven at Highway speeds for 30+ minutes and then is slowed down to 20-25 mph on side street/city driving.
Did visual check of hoses on turbo-all looks OK, Fuel filter was changed (no effect), cleaned out turbo intake and as many hoses as we could remove and inspect.
Kid spent all his money on the car and has no funds for the $55 an hour rate (Lowest a competent VW mechanic shop charges), to Trouble shoot the car with a Vag Guage.
P Owner offered to take car back-but kid loves the car. Any assistance is appreciated. The Kid and his car are in the Ft Lauderdale area.
