newbie from the yoop (upper peninsula) michigan

Hey all just joined looking forward to learning and getting to know some of you and your projects, just started my project and was looking for some info. Found this forum and thought it was a good reaserch point for me, I'm seeing if putting a 12v Cummins in my 1998 Chevy 2500 standard. It has the nv4500 trans and ive heard that its almost a direct bolt up to the motor but I'm skeptical, and I haven't really looked into the possibility until now. I already have several leads for motors and front axels as I wish to have a straight axle with the diesel and if the truck will be down anyway I figured it would be a good time to do both. So if anyone has insight or expirence in this matter I would be more than willing to listen to what you have to say.
