Has anyone built there own spyder for the 7.3? I bought a e99 and have dorman bellowed up pipes and non ebv pedestal. I rebuilt the turbo and installed beans fmw wheel. Instead of changing plenums, spyder, and turbo, I have been searching for homemade spyders. The truck is staying mostly stock for a dd, tow pig, and when the wife steals it.

1992 dodge d250 racetruck

It's time for it to go, I have a new rig I'm looking at buying and I can't afford two trucks. I am selling my 1992 dodge d250 that is making around 600hp with the potential for more. This truck has been featured in the November 2014 issue of Diesel Power Magazine. It ran an 11.85 in the 1/4 mile on slicks. This truck is FAST.

I will also include a 2000 dodge 4x4 roller along with a transfer case and driveline to use to convert it to 4 wheel drive, a dodge AAM 11.5 disc brake rear axle, and a few sets of rims and tires. Besides that I have many other stock and aftermarket parts to include.

Finally after selling the Dmax, I'm back in a Cummingz! Its a 2015 Laramie 3500 (leaves in the rear). I chose it after driving both and liked the leaf spring ride better, although stiff. project tow pig commence!

12v 800hp Twins @ 5000ft + Elev

What's it going to take engine wise to get this number at the wheels at high elevation? What kind of twins, how much fuel, how big an injector, what kind of cam, and how much timing? Can 12v at that power level with twins be made to be moderately responsive and have a generous powerband?

Small turbo question

I'll eventually be wanting a charger that flows >= hx35, and spools faster. I'm assuming everyone is going to recommend a BB garrett, but I'm garrett stupid.



What should I look for?

Anyone have specs on this turbo? I have never seen a Garrett turbo with a 'd' on the part number. Diesel specific possibly???



Many OEM fitment guides list this as one of the OEM turbos for a 7.8L Duramax but it's very difficult to find information on it.

head gasket for .040 bore block?

I am at a lost to determine where to by a head gasket for my motor which is bored .040 over. I have .075 valve clearence cut into pistons for my 188/220 cam since my head was milled a little.



Can I just run a stock thick gasket or do I need a custom head gasket?

Tranny Guys, Get me up to speed on current building trends.

Ive been lurking for a while, trying to be ready for this day. Well its here, my tranny finally gave up the ghost. Yet, i don't fell 100% confident on what parts and pieces to buy, which brands are good, which are junk.



Can experienced tranny builders chime in on this one. I am going to be doing this DIY style, and it will be my first automatic trans rebuild.



Ive got plenty of tools, lathe, mill etc so i figure i can make any special tools, spring compressor for the OD etc.



Ive seen mention of SONNAX valves being more likely to stick, various opinions on clutch material, clutch count, lever ratios.



My mind is spinning, can anyone make this all make sense?



My truck is an 89 ram charger with a 12v and 47re swapped in. The motor is mostly stock with some injectors and bolt ons. Its a daily driver, but also a toy. I do have a dually to drive when this thing goes down.



That being said, i would like to plan this transmission to have good hard parts to keep up with future plans. I would eventually like to make in the 500-600hp range. I don't think ill ever get serious enough to go much higher, i still want it to be drivable and towable. Just have enough ass to shut up kids and their crap cars.



My truck will still move, even do a burnout. But the trans take a long time to build any pressure, and is puking fluid out of the bell housing. Ive yet to take it out, but i guess i either lost the front pump or broke a weld on the converter. {it has a mean shudder when locked in OD}



So whats the list for a bad ass DIY trans build? What are the absolute avoids?

What could be causing my compressor surge?

Hi all,



I am running into a very interesting problem and looking for suggestions because I am stumped!



I sourced a new turbocharger for a 7.8L Duramax and I'm having terrible surge issues. If I plot the points (pressure ratio and mass flow) on my compressor map it is well within the surge line. I have used this same turbo (Borg Warner S200SX-50, 177267, 50mm inducer 70mm exducer) on other engines and this has never been a problem.



What else am I overlooking on the engine side that could contribute to surge? One thing I found after doing some research is 'wear of fuel injection valves'. Can anyone explain this? Please feel free to post any other ideas! :soap:

Just got my SCT live wire today, updated it, froze my ass off loading it, truck goes slower, helpwhats up, bought the truck in October finally saved up the money for SCT and updated than loaded the performance setting after work and truck went slower, boost at 28.7 is this normal or do I have a problem. Please help was a lot of money to spend for nothing...




Fass 95

I've got a pump only fass 95 that I've been running for at least 8 years. today it started running a little low on pressure so of course I changed the filters. I think the pump may be getting weak it's got 150k miles on it now. My question is would it be worth upgrading to a higher gph pump? Truck is 600+ hp vp44 . I'm running a custom filter setup with fleetguard fs1000 into a ff5320 10 micron/2 micron. 1/2" line from the pump to the filters and to the injection pump. I've done the draw straw thing before on other trucks and never liked the 1/4 tank empty issue. So this truck is 3/8" from the tank to the fass. What more could expect from a bigger pump? Would I benefit at all.

piston help

I just built a 12v with an hx35 ht3b setup. I was told a while back that the 3908815 was a good industrial piston to use i had the machine work done and a bran new cummins head o ringed. I then ordered a set of 7x10 sac injectors with a 155 degree spray pattern. Can anyone look at the pic in the link and tell me if these are "big bowl" pistons and should i have gone 145 deg spray pattern? removing my engine

I have symptoms of head gasket failure. Soot in the overflow, a lot of pressure in the coolant system and the heater core sounds like there is a waterfall in it.

It worries me because the head is studded so I'm thinking worse case is a cracked or warped head.

So I decided I want to pull the motor. I also want to fix some other leaked with all new gaskets including the rear main seal and oil pan seal. I'm figuring it will be easier to do all this work withe the motor on the stand.

I have everything to yank the motor but I was just wondering If there are any tips or tricks in getting that heavy beast out and then back in?. Thanks




2008 6.7 Cummins w/PCS

Looking for some trouble shooting opinions here...



So after a 48 trans failure and a new one installed I'm having issues with shifting, just having a hard time diagnosing the problem if its tuning or valvebody and trans.



Goes into gear fine but won't shift into 2nd and fells like I'm pumping the throttle and it revs up and down with pulsing rpm. Everything including the TCU-2000 has been completely replaced, so we're scratching our heads.



Anyone run into something like this before? I have 3 datalogs with this new trans with less then 20km's on it, also the Cal A tune if anyone cares to look just pm me.

I'm trying to put a new crank seal for a 1995 timing cover, it's is very tight and I already broke one trying to put it in, whats the best way to do this? I have the timing cover off of the truck.

Custom built stainless steel ice chest for air/water intercooler with two water pumps. Tig welded construction. dimensions of box are 31l x 16w x 14h of main tank has a sump that measures 20 x 16 x2.75. Also has a second tank that I used as a coolant tank for my head it is built inside the main tank and measures 31 x 13.5 x 2 The door opening is 12.75 x 10.75. Comes with two Dayton 4p062 water pumps that are 3/4" inlet/outlet All bungs are 3/4" npt fittings

Very nice piece hate to get rid of but just doesn't work with my new set up. Holds 80-100 lbs of ice very easily.

Introduction

Hi guys. I've been a member here for several years now just lurking and watching what people are working on. I am an accountant that manages a sawmill. Couldn't stand being trapped behind a desk in an office all day. I have been hot rodding and wrenching on cars trucks boats and 3/4 wheelers since I was big enough to pull a wrench. I've been driving and tuning/wrenching on cummins trucks for about 10 yrs. I'm on my third one now. Had a couple of 97's a 2500 and 3500 both tuned up a little. Been driving my current 00 QCLB 4x4 for a few years now. Rebuilt the 24v after buying it for a song with a cracked block. Just recently p-pumped it and ran into the first problem than really has me scratching my head. So take a peak at my thread in the p-pump 24v section and help me figure out what I'm missing.

Ok so here's my story. I just completed p-pumping my 00 with parts I pulled from a supposedly running engine. 97 215 hp pump. Pump sat on shelf for 3 years with plastic caps over DV fitting but only paper towels stuck in fuel in and out. First time to crank truck hits WOT as soon as lines bleed air and it starts firing fuel. Ok rack is stuck. Removed afc and confirmed stuck rack. Pulled rack plug and sprayed penetrating oil and working rack back and forth with screwdriver till it moves silky smooth. Truck cranks good idles good. After a dozen or so start stop cycles truck cranks over but will not fire. A small shot of starting fluid on the air filter will make truck fire and run. Idles fine and will rev no load to 3k. Truck is a dog on the road. Will not fuel enough even to make a small puff of black smoke. Fuel pressure at idle is 28 full throttle pegs my 60 psi gauge. Timing is at 23 right now I have tried 18 and 20 also. Injectors pulled and cleaned. My question is could the IP be bypassing enough fuel to not fire injectors at starter cranking speed and this also be causing fuel pressure spike?

After telling many people I would post these, I got busy as hell. Sorry for the delay.



I do 99% of truck stuff myself, but there are some things that I don't mess with ( or are outside my skill set), so I called up my buddy Terry at Monster Customs in Atlanta. They are one of the best shops in the Southeast, with more than a couple SEMA builds under their belt, in addition to doing demo cars for companies like Mmats, Audison/Hertz, etc. They have done installs for me in the past, and their attention to detail the best I've seen. I told them I had never seen a double-din in an early 2nd gen that looked good (neither had they), so they were eager to give it a shot.

The truck sees a lot of action from the jobsite, to the pulling track, to the backwoods, so the install had to be sturdy. They understood, and drew up a "cage" made of MDF/Aluminum that would house the head unit behind the dash, with angle bracing that ran back to the body of the truck and attached using shock dampening isolators.

I got rid of the ashtray and cig lighter, and I think it turned out nicely. I will have some more pics up later. This is just to give you an idea of how it looks in that model truck.Click the image to open in full size. Click the image to open in full size.

Couple truck issues

OK,



We have a few Chevy 1 tons that we have deleted for our delivery trucks. They are having a couple of issues and I am wondering if they can be tuning related or having other issues.



First truck:

Will not draw from 2nd fuel tank. Been to dealer thinking it was a simple switch but they have no idea and say that it has to do with the tuning in the truck. Is that possible that option was never reactivated in the new tune?



2nd truck:

Not drawing for 2nd tank just like first truck, also been to the dealer. Another issue they are saying is that truck will rev up to 1100 rpm when put into gear but truck will not move. Driver said he can put truck back in park and then shift again and it will be fine. They said truck doesn't flash any lights on dash and has plenty of power when it moves(not like its in limp mode).



I know its all kinda vague but I am getting the first truck today to get a better idea of what is going on, and then getting the 2nd truck next week when I hopefully get the 1st truck fixed.

Ok guys I'm ppumping my truck but I wanna start building my new engine to swap in its place what all would I need to do to make a 6.4l iIkknow it involves the 6.7 crank, 40 over pistons but I've heard you gotta cut the pistons due to the stroke being to long does anyone know how much to remove or where to get custom pistons

Ok guys I'm going to attempt to my first major thread I'm getting rid of the garbage vp finally, ppumping, doing an auto swap and single wheel conversion and later do rust repair and paint. I'll post pics if my progress and show all the parts as arrive. I've wanted to do the swap for a while and just now got the time and cash.

2008 6.7 Cummins w/PCS

Looking for some trouble shooting opinions here...



So after a 48 trans failure and a new one installed I'm having issues with shifting, just having a hard time diagnosing the problem if its tuning or valvebody and trans.



Goes into gear fine but won't shift into 2nd and fells like I'm pumping the throttle and it revs up and down with pulsing rpm. Everything including the TCU-2000 has been completely replaced, so we're scratching our heads.



Anyone run into something like this before? I have 3 datalogs with this new trans with less then 20km's on it, also the Cal A tune if anyone cares to look just pm me.

Want a pretty quick spool with about 40-50psi. Head studs also. The motor is under constriction right now. So everything in it is GMA be new. Just want a depemdable daily driver. Thanks! Any input will help!

Driveshafts: Steel or Al.

I am at the point of ordering f/r shafts for my Ford, and am looking for opinions on driveshaft material. Local machine shop says steel will be slightly cheaper, but not by much. $5-600 for the rear, 1410 joints. 5" .125 al. or 4" .095 steel. Using 1410 slip yoke on 241DHD, Upgraded 1410 yoke on the 10.25 rear.



The truck is a VE with compounds, so nothing extreme. I like aluminum for the bling factor, sort of fits with the truck.



Has anyone met issues with aluminum driveshaft yoke caps? It'd be an expensive break if it occurred. Although I do not race or pull, just DD to work and yank a heavy trailer around every month or so.




DHD/Dana 80 swap

Alright guys getting ready to tear the truck apart and just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row since I'm fairly new at this. Like my sig says I've got an ecsb with a leaking dld and an open 70 out back and I'm looking for longevity on the street/track (building drivetrain before engine). I know for the 80 I'll need the plates for the bottom of the axle tubes as well as the plates that sit on top of the leaf springs and the dhd I got off an auto truck so it should go right in. Just curious if anyone on here know right off hand how much I'm gonna need to shorten my driveshaft or if I'm missing anything with either swap. Thanks again




speed sensor location

Ok so when I bought my 96 ram I was told it had a t case from a 24v. It's a auto to manual swap so I'm guessing the nv4500 and t case came from a 99 or later truck.

All gauges work except for speedo and odom. I was given a what I was told was a speed sensor that would alow the speedometer to work. It's a black plastic plug with a white cap on one end that has a Female plug and a green plastic gear on the other end.

Haven't had a chance to crawl under the truck lately with all the snow we have had. I'm wondering if anyone could tell me were in need to start to get my speedometer working. Thanks

ARP rod bolt problem

I know a lot of you have arp rod bolts installed. Well, I just got off of the phone with the machine shop. He said the arp bolts lack enough thread to tighten down on the cap. 1/16'' he says. And wasn't just 1 rod, they tried on all of them. I spoke with an arp rep, and he seemed very arrogant, like they never make a mistake. He is supposed to call me with their dimensions of what they are supposed to be. But I haven't heard from him yet. Another wrench in my already tight deadline. Anybody else ever ran into or heard of this? Rods are stock common rail fracture cap rods if it matters......

2010 cummins 2500 auto

have for sale a 2010 2500 cummins white auto. Bone stock. 86,000 miles. Shifts great with no slipping. All new front end balljoints and all. New pinion seals. Will come with STOCK wheels and new tires. Has a ram box bed that has been swapped in great shape. Has one small dent in the back of the cab from previous owner. Painted to match bumpers and grill. Wtb dana 80 arb locker

Looking for dana 80 arb. Would like 4.10 up carrier but will buy either. Preferably 35 spline but 37 would work to.




Need some help. Primary turbo mount w/ Straight Steed

Decided to start working on fabbing up my compound setup. Turbos are t4 nongated s300 over a t6 s400 getting fed by a straight flanged t4 steed speed.



There is plenty of room for the primary underneath the secondary and I purchased all my piping based on that configuration setup so I would like to stick with that style.



Im at a loss to where and how I should mount this primary. EDs style mount looks like it would cause the primary exhaust to hit the firewall and make everything else more cramped since i have a straight flange. Not sure how high and how far out I should build this mount to accommodate for oil drain, feed, intake, etc.



If anyone has any experience with this style, any pics or dimensions of a mount they would care to share, I would appreciate it.

Sled pulling custom air to air

I have a 2.5 pulling truck (2000 Classic Chevy Cummins) and desperately needing to build a new intercooler for this year to replace the cheap eBay one. Been looking at bells site trying to wrap my head around what I should buy, my question is what do I need CFM wise and is it better to run a vertical flow that moves more air but is a shorter core or a typical horizontal flow cooler that flows less air but is a larger core? I have a 42"x4.5"x18" area to work with. From what I have found on bells site a horizontal flow cooler will only be about 1000ish CFMs. I could run a vertical flow that will be 2500ish CFMs but including room for the tanks the core would only end up being 10" tall. Any thoughts?

DLC coated bearings mismatch

Alright I got some dlc coated bearings from spence on here. I have all rod and main bearings except the thrust bearing.



Now my question is should a run just my rod bearings? Short block already has clevite mains installed so should I just leave them or run the all the coated ones with the clevite thrust?

24v Block with 12 Head?

I was in process of building a p pump 24v, then after I got block hot tanked, machined, and bought new pistons then i started looking into the head. I had it magna fluxed and found out it was cracked in multiple places and don't really wanna take the chance. Is it possible to put 12v head on top and just run it, or do I have to change anything else? I heard it was OK to do just wanna make sure before I dump the money on a head. If anyone has any input it's appreciated. Thanks
