Valve seats

samedi 24 mai 2014

This may not be extreme, but I figured I'd get answers here.

Anyway, I have the head off of my 12 valve because the head gasket blew. I am porting and o-ringing it at the same time, but I took it to the local engine shop first to clean/check it. He said there are small cracks in the exhaust seats and that I could either leave them, get a new head (I don't really want to) or have new seats pressed in. I was going to have him do the new seats, but some forum members have mentioned that they can come loose/fall out, etc.

I wondered what some of your opinions are? Is it better to have new seats pressed in or just have him touch up the cracked ones? They are too small to see by eye, but they aren't going to get any smaller either.

My truck is a DD, mods are in my sig...never been to a dyno or track so I don't know how I would rate it...maybe 500-550hp? I run 57psi of boost and very rarely see over 2500 RPM. EGTs were previously 1200° max, but I have changed turbos and injectors recently so I didn't really get to see how EGTs and all that ran before the head gasket let go.

Thanks
