Hey all. Picked up a new turd wagon beater. Been fixing little things on it as i go. This truck is super slow, and I'm having a hard time figuring out why, or whats amiss with this thing.
95 2wd dually. nv4500. 3.54axle. all stock except a #10 plate and the muffler seems to have been straight piped on the stock exhaust.
The waste gate diaphragm is torn, and disconnected so their is no boost leak or waste gate control.
The truck pulls decently up to 1800rpm, then just falls flat on its face. By the time you hit 2000rpm its struggling to make any more power and doesn't really want to build rpm.
it will free rev to 3k. pull 2500 tops going down the highway.
I basically have to floor it and run the gears like I'm drag racing to keep up with the flow of traffic, which produces a fairly healthy cloud of black smoke I'm sure the folks behind me don't enjoy. It only smokes under 1500rpm, has cleared up by 1500 and doesn't smoke at higher rpms.
I've replaced fuel filters, oil change. fixed some oil leaks. but thats about as long as I've had it. When i bought it they had a fuel cap from a gasser on it. So after you drove it a while it would suck the fuel tank nearly inside out, when you went to start it the next day it would puff BILLOWS of white smoke until you got it fired up. I don't know how long they drove it like that, and probably is why they sold the truck assuming it had something major wrong with it. {which it might}
Runs fine, oil pressure seems fine. I just run with a loose fuel cap and haven't had the white clouds and hard starting issue since.
But its still slow as balls. My other truck is a 4wd with a 97 cummins swap, 5x12 injectors. Same fuel plate and blocked pup waste gate. It pulls MUCH harder than this 2wd thing. What gives?
Im stumped at this point.
Maybe the truck had a GSK and they took it out or loosened it up to make it seem stock? i am not sure.
