Cp3 fuel supply pump idea

dimanche 3 août 2014

I've done a lil searching and couldn't find anyone that's tried this. I was thinking I could take a power steering pump off a small car, one with a remote resivor, remove the flow/pressure valve from it, and use as a lift pump. I looked up some flow ratings for common pumps and they all seam to be around 2.5-3.5 gpm , that's about 150-200 gph Like other common mechanical pumps,

I figure if I could remove the pressure valve it'd improve the flow and reduce the pressure down to a manageable fuel psi, 100 psi max hopefully...maybe do some porting on it, find some 1/2 or 5/8 fittings, use a safety bypass valve and a return style boost reference regulator.

A ps pump at its max psi is around 1500, but that's with a very restrictive gear box/rack. I'm assuming when used in a fuel system it wouldn't be able to make that' kinda psi without the valve right? And diesel fuel is quite abit thinner than ps fluid, hyd fluid, or trans fluid, I know these 3 fluids can be used in a ps pump without problems, wouldn't diesel be ok In one also?

Or what if you kept the pump at a high pressure 200 or so, and deleted the gear pump on the back of the cp3. And deleted the internal regulator, plumb an external regulator so you could have full adjustability to the internal psi to the plungers. Fix an plug with a small jet where the stock reg once was so fuel could still lubricate the pump like it's so posed to?

I'll shut up, my brain hurts now. Lol.
