Torque Converter Issue?

mercredi 2 juillet 2014

Hey guys,

On my way into work this morning, I has a trans cooler line (that apparently was rubbing on the other line) start leaking. I was in OD with the TC locked and then it unlocked, I thought that was weird so I pulled over about a 1/2 miles down the road at a gas station.

Luckily I had some tools and I fixed it in the parking lot (it's still rubbing, but I'll fix that tonight). I then went and grabbed some Dex3 ATF and tossed it in. It took 5 quarts to get it back where it needed to be. My system takes 17quarts, so I figure it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

What's happening now:

On the drive home, I got on it a little to test everything out. The stall feels the same, and it locks up hard, shifts hard, etc... But when I got on the expressway I locked the converter in OD (like I normally do), and I went to pass someone and it felt like my TQ was slipping. The RPMS did not stay proportional to the speed, but it didn't feel like a slipping trans or clutch when they just swing to red line really easily. This was like if you were driving a manual and applied 80% clutch and it was just barely short of a full grab.

Some other testing:

1st, 2nd, 3rd, and OD all feel the same as before unlocked.

1st, 2nd, 3rd, and OD all will slip the lock up (1st and 2nd require me using brakes otherwise it's either too fast for me to realize, or it doesn't do it).

Does anyone know what happened?

Did I kill the lock up clutch in the TQ?

Is there a seal or o-ring that I might have killed?

It's weird how it will slam into lockup hard still but then pushes through the lock up a bit.
