Making a chassis do it all

Just dreaming here, but after spending 7 hours in a car this weekend i've done a little thinking. I have a couple local friends that are talking me into auto-crossing, and maybe some drifting. I currently have a project truck that i plan on starting once work slows down this fall, but i've been leaning towards selling it and all the parts, and building a car. Most likely an older Supra as they are relatively cheap and easy to make big power. But that just leaves me with a car, obviously no dirt drags or sled pulling which i love to do.





So that brings me to this, how well could i build a truck to basically do everything: drag racing(dirt and asphalt), auto-cross, some sled pulling, and at the end of the day still be a decent DD and tow if needed. Not looking to go out and set the world on fire, just a truck that will do whatever i ask of it halfway decent.



What i currently have is a 97 F-250 ECSB. I have the parts for a 5-600hp 7.3. I'm pretty confident i could get this truck down to, if not under 6k lbs without too much hassle. I also have a set of 99 axles, but ultimately i'd love to go with 05+ suspension with front coils which would make it super easy to go 3/4 link. Rear would be a soft set of leafs with traction bars, and possibly helper bags so it could tow alright.



Overall i plan to lower the truck as much as i can, add some hefty sway bars front and rear, and i'd like a set of "racing" seats as the stock seats have 0 lateral support. Depending on what happens with the trans it will either be a ZF-6(which i have), or a built auto with a standalone controller(what i really want). It'd probably be running on a set of 420's, or BFG AT's. For pulling i'd make some rear stops to raise the ass up, plus i'd be able to hang a good bit out of weight out front. It'd get a roll pan along with moving the hook point up as far as possible. Only frame work i see happening would be adding some plate for a GN hitch, along with whatever it'd take to move the hitch up and reinforce it.





So thoughts on if this could make a fun street truck, or am i way out in left field?




444HP???

I strapped my truck to the rollers yesterday and I only made 444 HP. i made 20psi less boost and could not get the egts above 1200*. The dyno was an inertia dyno. It had zero load and i still managed to smoke my tires on the rollers. A Pulling truck there with a 13mm pump, 5x20s and a s472 only made 480hp. He also hit 160 mph in the truck. So what's the deal? Was the numbers so low because of the dyno being a no-load type??




Good piston vendor/ recommendations

Looking to buy a set of mahle 286210 pistons and rings from someone reliable. No fly cut or valve reliefs or coatings. Unless it's a good enough deal, then I'll save my own time and pay.




93 D250 Ext Cab auto

$3800 in N. IL.



I averaged 20mpg hand calculated without the topper and 19 with.



I bought this in March.This is my 4th truck of this vintage so I know how it runs inside and out. Now, to describe the truck.



It is the LE package with captains chairs and the center cubby. No rips or tears in the seats. Drivers side could use some padding. Recline feature works on both seats but the drivers seat is missing the lever. Headliner is sagging but held up with some pins. I did the $.04 mod for the drivers wing window. Electric mirrors and windows work flawlessly and without any bind or slowing. Wing windows open and shut as they should. Has the rear sliding window but the latch is broken. All the gauges work and work well. A/C would make an Eskimo cold in the Arabian desert. The only thing not working as it should is the lightbulb for the HVAC controls. I plan on replacing that this weekend when I have time... I think.



The body is a 5/10. Needs rockers and a driver floorpan. Around $200 for everything you need minus paint. No cracks or chips in the windshield. It has 2 right tail lights. I have some chrome trimmed NOS taillights that go with it. Bed has a hole where a smoke stack was added. Tailgate works half the time, the other half require flipping the little lever on the drivers side. All the lights work, including the license plate lights. Chrome front grill has the usual crack where the hood latch comes through the radiator support. Passenger mirror chrome shell is busted but this doesn't affect the mirror operation.



The engine. The almighty Cummins engine. Nearly stock. I just did the valve adjustment and replaced the rear main seal about 2 months ago. I tuned it up and can return to stock in 30 minutes if you want. I consistently get 19-20 mpg running around 300 miles per week. I have an extra fuel and oil filter that go with it.



The stock auto trans runs great. I adjusted the bands and replaced the filter and fluid. It shifts great, unlike most autos of this vintage. It has definite, firm shifts. Has Traveller Tractor Hydraulic Transmission fluid.



The center support bearing and 1 out of 3 u-joints have been replaced. That should make you happy. The center support bearing (carrier bearing) costs $70 alone. The other 2 need replacing. When I have time, I plan on doing it.



Brakes work good. Typical Dodge brakes.



Needs tires before winter. Has 1 good rear, 1 front and 1 rear at 25%, and 1 nearly bald front.



It includes a really cool, old, grandpa style topper. Windows on the side move and work, as does the rear hatch. Even has the 70's style Dodge lettering on it.

New guy from Maine...need some advice

Hey guys, from Portland, Maine, always loved diesels, bunch buddies of mine all have them so I picked up my first diesel two weeks ago...picked up an 06 Chevy ext. cab duramax with a 130k on a stock motor. Love the truck! I had some aftermarket goodies installed the day i bought it: EFI live dps5 switch, 4" straight pipe, pillar gauges showing boost and exhaust temp. My question is where do I go from here to build it with more power? Do I go with a fuel pump first or bigger turbo, injectors?? and which ones first? little lost on what todo next haha any advice and insight would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

97 Ram 2500 ECLB SLT +/- drivetrain

Truck is a 1997 2500, SLT Laramie, 4 four wheel drive, silver and red two tone, with tan (saddle) interior. Truck was an auto when I bought it at 222,000. At 230,000 I swapped in a brand new nv4500 and brand new 550hp Valair single disc clutch.



Truck runs perfectly, I currently use it to commute 60 miles a day to school, that's part of why I'm selling it. Truck is rusty! I've patched it up to pass the last 2 years of inspections. It's scheduled for another the 9th and should take it. I have $1000+ in receipts for work done to the truck since I bought it.

Question on timing my second engine of the year?

Hi I've got a few questions for you guys. First off this is what I have, 12v with mahle 286110 pistons flycut .150. The injectors are 155° ih bodies 5x20 single large feed bar set at 300. I have NE injection 13mm pump with .093 lines. The truck is a dedicated 2.6 truck. Soo is there a formula to figure out how much timing I can run before it melts down? I'm at 34° now and it doesn't seem to have the power it should. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vent tube pulling vacuum?

I'm looking to buy my first diesel truck. I checked out a '92 ex-cab Cummins with 403,000 miles and was expecting to find considerable blow by. @ idle it

was very light, had the owner bring the rpm up a bit,I'm guessing 1100 rpm .

I was surprised when I didn't feel anything coming out of the vent tube so I put my hand over it and noticed it was actually pulling a slight vacuum!

Does anyone have an explanation for this?:confused:




New to me 6.0 issue

Let me start by saying I own 2 superduty vehicles with 6.0s. First I bought was a 2005 excursion which I really like, so I decided to buy a f250.



My issue is with the 2003 f250 6.0 4x4 with a zf6. i purchased it being told it had 8 reman injectors, and a new h pop. The truck had a bad shake on idle, was told one injector was bad, but it was under warranty.This misfire was very bad, like the engine was just jerking around. The edge tuner in the truck would shoe 640-780 rpms on the tach, changing up and down rapidly. The crazy thing is you tap the throttle and it would smooth out.





I purchased the truck and took it to a friend who own a powerstroke shop. He checked injectors and said 4 were bad. So I exchanged 4 of them under warranty. When those 4 injectors were installed the issue still existed.O I thought the issue was the standard motor products injectors that were installed. The only issue showing on scanner was a balance rate fluctuation.



The ficm was checked and was a 58 volt unit. After a recheck it was dropping voltage while running. So the ficm was sent to swamps diesel and received a makeover. Injectors were sent to jesse warren, they were remanufactured again and I paid for the electronics/solenoid upgrade.



Received everything and reinstalled injectors and ficm, still no fix. Also tried a confirmed injector harness with no change.



Truck is studded, has a airdog, edge evolution with custom php tunes, egr delete, intake and exhaust.



So to recap truck will feel like is is shaking itself apart. Motor violently jerks side to side, rpms on edge go up and down 640-780 as fast as you can read it and will settle down a lot of times if you tp the throttle.



the powerstroke shop that has my truck has scanned it with no codes. Said icp and ipr look good on screen.



What am i missing here. any ideas? I need this truck fixed asap.

I have two s366 turbos for sale. I bought these with the intentions of building triples on my truck but decided on a different set up for the time being. They came off a triple set up and was told they have 5,000 miles on them. $600 per turbo. Or I might do some trading for some duramax parts. If I poke some numbers into the calculator based on square inches and #, It says the 11" may be about 23% more clutch, but I think it's more complicated than that and diameter makes a big difference real quick.

Mahle 24v Pistons

I have a used set of mahle .040 over pistons. They have been flycut .100" and have had the domes mild .050". They were roughly 15:1 CR . I ran them in my p pumped 24v for about 10,000 miles, if that. The only problem is that 2 of the pistons have a burn mark in the edges of the flycuts. These marks could be machined out by the right person. I was going to run them, but ended up going with a different piston all together. I would like to get $500 or best resonable offer on them. Would also be interested in trades. 2002 ecsb 2500

Deciding to list my truck for sale just as it is. Due to some personal reasons, I'm going to see if it will sell as a whole truck. I'm asking $10K for it and I'll list everything out. I would also be interested in trading for a single cab 12v 4x4 auto that is good and clean, preferably stock or as close to stock as possible that won't need much if any work, no rust and maybe some $$. I think I have at least that much or more in it if I parted it out easily, just not sure if I want to do that. Now it is still somewhat of a project and not just 100% road ready yet FYI. I did blow the oil line off recently, but am having a new line made and will put it one and fill with oil and take a video of it running. It has been a strong motor with no blow by.

Engine: 12V engine out of a 1995 that had 270k miles on it. Always ran great. I swapped this into the 24V truck.



-I adapted the coolant and oil sensors to the 24v harness and they work. I also have a cam sensor adapter hooked up and it works also.



-Engine had all the tins pulled off and all new gaskets and seals just put on it before I dropped it into the truck. Also painted it black



-Billet tappet side cover

-New stock 12v manifold

-P7100 with weston's 7mm DVs with dual feed setup all -10AN size and y-block

- 5 x 0.018" with 0.010" lift injectors built by JL I believe

-block deck is o-ringed with inconel wire

-head has been ported on intake and exhaust, 3 angle valve job, decked, valves recessed back to stock specs, top hat valves seals, 60lb valve springs

-Hamilton 188/220 with billet retainer and Manning pushrods on 24v tappets

-new fuel pump and custom fuel setup with CAT filter, -10AN hose all the way to tank

-HE351 with bored comp cover for 62 wheel, and bored turbine housing for 64 wheel, center section is a BAE 62/64, it did get some wear on it when oil line blew off. I think its ok though, has a little thrust wear, side-side seems ok.

-custom built intercooler pipe and downpipe for turbo on flipped manifold

-some other things too like stainless fastners etc that I can't even list all

-custom build all aluminum triple pass radiator with electric fans(not hooked up yet)



Trans/t-case: fresh rebuild 47RH and a NV271 with ford fixed output flange

-TCS input shaft

-TCS servos, apply, anchor, strut, accumulators

-transgo full manual VB kit

-increased clutch count on direct and OD

-5 pinion steel planets and swapped OD planets to 48re 6pinion planets

-aluminum deep pan tapped for temp sensor

-t-case is a ford electronic shift with a dodge input shaft, I also have a NV271D manual shift t-case that can be used for parts to swap it around however you want.

-new rear driveshaft, no front drive on it yet

-bought most of the other parts for trans from Firepunk



Axles: Front Dana 60 w/CAD, rear is a Dana 80 with disc brakes both in good condition, front right wheel bearing recent replaced with Timken. 37" military tires on Hummer wheels that I recentered. These are the 24 bolt offset wheels. I wouldn't mind keeping the wheels and tires if you could bring some others to put on it, I'll make a deal some how.



Suspension:

-Custom front 4 link long arms

-3.5" lift progressive rate coils up front

- 2.0" w/rez shocks( I think fox)

- bilsteins in the rear

- no sway bars front or back

- rear only has three leafs with no clamps on leaves and a shackle flip

- 1" hydro-assist cylinder up front with WesTex mods on PS pump

- inverted T-style steering (98/99 HD) fairly new



Interior:

-every single A/C piece has been replaced brand new

-new heater core

-HVAC box pulled and cleaned/freshened up

-does need to be filled still with freon

-dash in good shape

-from front to back floor has been covered in CLD tiles, CCF, MLV 2lb

- custom built center console with spot for screen and comes with b&m ratchet shifter very nice has sub built into it also

-gauges, all isspro EV1, two 0-100psi boost gauges, one 0-60 boost, egt, trans, fuel pressure, has blank spot on steering column for another gauge

-has a gauge cluster from a v-10 in it for higher rpms

-seats are in pretty good shape

-dash has been modified but not yet finished for a double din radio

- i still have original center console to inlcude with it

buyer beware!!!!!

Just wrighting this to let everyone now, and vent a little about my situation, I bought a 2008 dodge with a 6.7 from a member here, member listed the truck as needing injectors but the truck ran good and had no blow by, held good oil pressure. Truck being in good shape and looked to be well taken care of , I thought I asked enough questions and got enough info, went ahead and purchased the truck and had it shipped to me, truck gets to me unload it and get to looking around, it only had one battery , missing bolts holding the a/c condenser in broken off bolts in the intake horn, so I move on to pull injectors out and have bench tested and reinstall in truck all of them checked out good, come to find out truck has a rod nock just off of idle, thinking it is a rod bearing b/c it comes from rear of oil pan by the starter. So now I have to pull engine and put bearings in it and turn the crank. Like title said buyer beware, just putting it out there!!!!:bang

My budget build

OK so here we go I have my 01 qcsb I have 3.55 gears a silver bullet 66 edge comp airdog 100 pdi manifold banks intake horn (I didn't buy was on the truck). Triple disk convertor and billet input alone with other stuff in there. So I want to keep this truck as my sports car haha fun for the street and good at the pulls might see the track someday. Now I'm a poor man so I do everything myself. So I just got my donor 12 v for 1000 bucks :D. Now the pump swap will happen. I also have another pump that o was gonna send to Farrel to have a 13mm done I have another head getting ported so on and a billet intake manifold made for. I might have some billet stuff made for he swap as well. Now I'm gonna part out the rest of that truck and sell everything off the 01 I was thinking about doing a twin set up with a 66 and 480 just because maybe the wrong choice you guys tell me now what I would like some thoughts on are things like cam. Fuel system was gonna do stainless line with areo pump. Also the donor has 4.10 gears should they go into mine? I'll try to get some pics up or both and some small work I've done so far. Thanks and look forward to suggestions for keeping the cost down as I'm sure I'm not the only one. Haha

2000 7.3 question

Hey guys I bought a 2000 7.3 that had fire damage.... I just wanted the lift and wheels off the truck. I wanted to know if anyone has made a wiring harness. am I just wasting my time trying? The pcm is ok but the rest of the wires on the motor are burnt gone. Thanks for any help!




DTC or MIL when eliminating oil pressure sensor?

Is there any reason to run the oil pressure sensor in a EFILive 2006 standalone application? The customer is running a mechanical gauge but didn't know if the ECM would derate fuel without oil pressure? I figured I'd ask.

Killed my BTS

Thats right. Cummins 1 BTS 0

Snapped the input shaft on the way home tonight. Pump and converter are junk. I'm sure the trans is full of metal. Probably going to need a new 6.0 cooler.

I guess this is a good time to think about a winter project. Might be good to pull the motor and replace the freeze plugs under the valve cover with the screw in style. I remember something about the rear freeze plug also. There is some kind of support/replacement plate?

I am probably going to rewire it for a 06 ECM so i can run EFI Live. Any other suggestions for little things while i got it out?




Dana 80 girdle, main caps

Been looking and can't find anything. Need a set of billet main caps and Studs for a Dana 80. Also looking for a girdle. All Ive found is ones that look like a high school metals shop class built them. If I can't find anything better I'll just get the LPW ULTIMATE 80 cover. PM me what anyone has.




Zf6 2wd lb7 tune needed!

The truck had a locked ECM when I bought it, swapped it out and reflashed a 01 zf6 4x4 os on it, that got me running but my abs lights and brake system lights are on! I need a 2wd tune! I've searched every fourm I can think of!




Holset ht60

I have for sale a Holset HT60 with about 5 pulls and 1,000 miles on a rebuilt on my 855 Cummins. When it was rebuilt the only parts that were reused were the housings. It got a new center section, bearings, seals, shaft and wheels.



This turbo has a 73.5mmx106mm compressor wheel and an 86mmx100mm turbine wheel with a 22cm turbine housing. I'm asking $400 asking shipping.



Turbo is still in great shape and ran great on my engine. Pictures show the turbine housing painted white, which was just a spray can silicone spray. I cooked it on the oven as directed but it is turned a cream color and is flaking off now.

Drag Week

Are there any diesels going to make Drag Week this year and run? Would be nice to see some quick soot run down the track with all the rest.



On a side note, there seems to be some REALLY fast cars and trucks this year. best i figure there will be at least 3 people running 6's and driving from track to track.

injector balance rate issue

mid July i sold my 03 and bought a 06 with only 7000 miles on the current performance setup (bone stock before). all the work was done in April at a shop in north Georgia. the parts are 10mm h&s stroker, industrial injection long life 100s, htt66, fass, studded, intercooler/intake, and built auto. 2 weeks ago i noticed my oil was high and changed it, it made 2 gallons. so i watched it over the next few days and about 4-5 days the oil raised about 3/8" on the dip stick. took the valve cover off checked for leaks above the head, even unplugged the fca and everything checked okay. finally checked my balance rates and injectors 1-5 checked out at around .1-4mm3 and number 6 was 14.1ish mm3. the truck ran great and only had hard starts a few times, so i had industrial overnight me a injector monday and installed it tuesday. the rear hold down bolt on the injector was hand tight and also the intake rocker bridge was upside the injector body rubbing it. i have no idea why it was doing so, so once i put it back together i started the truck multiple times and let it idle and watched to make sure something wasnt wrong to cause that, but nothing.. trucks ran great so for curiosity i checked balance rates this evening and im reading the same numbers again...

so what could have cause the same readings after a new injector and also the bridge to be off and rubbing the injector body?Click the image to open in full size.




Hot egt temps

The egt are running really hot for some reason . The truck has 62mm phat shaft on it and 370 marine injectors motor has marine bowls in it timing is at 18 degrees has 215 pump 181 DV truck has aftermarket intercooler in it. Truck is auto. Cruising with 29ft camper and running 65-70 it's running 1000-1100 degrees in overdrive. Truck has 3.55 gears. 4 inch to 5inch exhaust. I have checked for boost leaks, low fuel psi it's 25 at idle and 45 at wot . Thought maybe when I put motor together maybe I got it one tooth out on cam pulled cover off and checked dead on cam key is still in there too need help and ideas thanks. :nail:

So what's the break down on cracking the OM6xx coding?



I am looking at an 83 300SD for $2500. I know nothing about it other than it was rebuilt 2 years ago and the owner has owned it for 22 years. Near mint condition I may add.




06 cummins fan control

I swapped an 06 5.9 and 48re with the factory fan clutch into my wifes excursion earlier this year. Everything is running well with the exception of the a/c. The only issue with the a/c is that the fan doesn't come on when the pressure gets high to cool the condenser so the a/c doesn't cool when your not running down the road. This is only really an issue now that the kids are in school and my wife has to wait at school to pick up the kids. I have a stock dodge pressure transducer in the high pressure line but from the wiring I was working with it looks like the pressure transducer signal goes to the tipm (which i didn't use). as far as i can guess the tipm tells the ecm to run the fan through the can bus and there is no input in the ecm to control the fan.



If anyone knows anything about making this work I would greatly appreciate the information.

I DD it and its a blast on the highway.



Im in college and cant afford to finish this truck the way it should be. It is drivable but needs to be finished up.



If I can sell my Dodge first I will get the hood painted to match.



Truck is located in southern oregon (klamath falls). I will do my best to make sure you know everything about it. I will be fixing things as I get the time so it will change.

This thing runs like a top and starts with half a crank every time. Auto shifts firm and quick. The interior of this truck is pretty amazing IMO. The side and back windows are tinted. Headliner doesnt sag, AC works, Heater works, has a trailer brake setup



The paint is awful. I traded a guy stock 47RE if he would plastidip my truck and it turned out like chit. Both his look awesome, mine looks awful... HMMMMMMM. It looks ok from a distance though :kick:



I didn't shorten the frame the guy before me did it. I can get pictures if anyone would like to see that connection, I think he did a good job.

Does anybody know what software is on the new Smarty RaceME tuners ? The S67 says +200 HP with timing, all the older software says 170? Just kind of curious

J'ai une table de tronçons de routes qui comporte des doublons au niveau de l'ID. En effet, j'ai été amené à couper des tronçons ce qui a créé ces doublons dans le champ ID. Je souhaiterai aujourd'hui fusionner les tronçons qui ont des ID identiques pour obtenir un ID unique. Je ne trouve pas la syntaxe pour effectuer la modification directement dans ma table.


je pense qu'il faut utiliser le GROUP BY sur l'ID et ST_UNION sur le champ geom mais ne sait pas trop comment agencer tout ça dans ma requête

What are some things you do that newbs like me might not think of in preparation for the upcoming race weekend.



I want to have as much crap done as I can before I have to leave for the track this Friday.



Trailer prep: Absorb, trash bags, diapers, rags, cleaners (solvents and soaps), wiring, hoses, tools



Tire pressure gauge, and air compressor with air chuck. IR temp gun.



All my fluids are checked or changed in the race truck and the tow pig. My laptop is backed up and the dongles for making tuning changes are on board. Cameras and SD cards are ready. Both trucks have their programmers sitting in the back seat.



Nitrous bottle is full



Helmet and firejacket are in the trailer



Fuel tank is at 1/4 full, spare 5 gallons in the trailer

Im just wondering, has anyone ran a fleece performance, he351 on there 2nd gen dodge, either on the street or for the workstock pulling class? Im considering one for my vp truck with 6x.013's and an edge juice with attitude hot unlocked, and was wondering if i would be over fueled for this turbo, or if i could go slightly larger on the injectors or am i fine with what ive got? Dyno it, then start pulling workstock around here locally?




12 valve charging issue

I was rewiring the fuel pump switch tonight, when a hot wire (straight from battery to relay) grounded out on the body. This caused the stereo to reset to default settings, the trip odometer reset, and now my alternator is only putting out 10.x volts, and dropping slowly. Measuring the alternator output off the back of it. I also smelled a hot glue gun smell for a couple minutes coming from the under the hood while truck was running.



Any one know if these are signs of something bigger, or all is good and I'll just need a new alternator?

It has a buckstop front bumper that needs paint. Truck looks very sharp from 20feet away. Has fresh amsoil in both axles. All parts are with the truck to put it back together (radiator, intercooler, PS/Vacuum pump, starter, AC compressor, etc.). Also includes the other new headlight that is missing in the picture.

I've just got too many projects and kids activities going on and the pulling truck seems to take up my little free time I find. I'm sure this would make a fun truck for someone, my plans were a 250-300 hp setup while getting decent mileage. If someone wanted to buy the whole lot I would make a deal on all of it.
