St George Diesel Drags

Blackrock Motorsports hosted their monthly-ish street drag event at the old airstrip in St George, Utah this past Saturday April 27th, 2014. It was lightly raining off and on all day so the concrete airstrip/track was not prepped, timing lights were down, and it was squirrely at times for the 2wd trucks.



It was tons of fun with good old arm drop drag racing, run what you brung and lift when you feel un-safe.... or never!!! :lolly:



A local new shop, Scott Diesel was there running their Dmax powered 11.90 Super Diesel Truck. It was the fastest vehicle there most of the day due to 4x4 launches and good hooking street tires.



Then Todd W. showed up with his purpose-built Super Street 4x4 Truck with a completely new pump setup. The maiden test hit went straight and true and not too smokey for a big modern 13mm pump built by one of the top pump shops in the country.







No timing system so who knows how quickly anyone was running, I'd guess the white Dmax was close to an 11.90 pass...







Here's the Junker Sporting some borrowed 32x14 Drag Slicks, it didn't matter, traction was non existent for my 2wd beast with street tires, regular 29.5x11.5 slicks, or the borrowed slicks, although the borrowed tires did hook the best by far.







Even got to pedal my way down the track running this Camaro SS RS, high 13 to low 14 second car in those conditions if I had to guess.







Smith Diesel from Cedar City Utah brought out a couple of their daily driver Ford Powerstroke shop trucks, amazing how much of an advantage 4x4 is off the line in less than ideal traction conditions.











And finally, here's a nice "silent film" with more of the racing action. Of course Todd and I had to line up at least once and he spanked my slow 2wd.

there is painted fender flares on it that look good but im sure there is some rust under them. (its a michigan truck)

there is rust on the bottom of the tailgate and cab corners that the previous owner rhinolined and painted silver to match the truck. the rockers are also rusty but cant see them until the doors are open.

its not by any means a perfect truck, i really just miss my ford and the cab space. (im 6'7" and the dodge interoir is less than adequate for me)

im sure there are things im forgetting



the ford must be clean and have leather, 05 and up for a 6.0 truck or an immaculate 7.3, not interested in 2003,2004 6.0 trucks



would be nice if it had a sunroof and topper but i cant expect everything

Hart's Injectors

I know they're somewhat of a favorite amongst 12v pullers, who has experience with them? Going in a drag truck, Scheid 13mm, S480/S598, Hamilton head, billet cam, 12:1 Mahle pistons (don't have the p/n at the moment). The sticks are 5x0.020's. I'm sidelining the build and have zero experience with Harts, just looking for some insight..

Switching away from amsoil

I only put on about 7k a year and I called

Amsoil they told

Me you need to change the oil every year instead of doing extended drain intervals. They say after a year the additives go out of the oil and it needs to be changed regardless of miles. If that is the case it would be a lot cheaper for me to switch back to conventional oil and change it every 5k. I have 5w30 amsoil in right now and was going to go back to 15w40 conv like all my tractors and other trucks have. Do I need to worry about anything or have to do anything special if I switch? Has anyone done this before?

Coolant question????

So today i went to get some coolant at the local dodge dealership, and when they gave me the gallon, it was red.. He told me this is the stuff that should of came with the truck.. Truck has green in it.something about corrosion. Any real info on what should be in the truck guys.... Thanks

I have been running this turbo on/off for a couple years. I kept trying similar s400s and always came back to this one for the power/drive ability but im thinking of going to twins. Specs are 68/83/.90. It has the marmon(4 5/8" ?) style outlet that is common on the T4 housings. V-band outlet on compressor housing. I also have the 90* elbow and clamp that could possibly go with it. It made ~ 725hp based on track times on my truck. I put new bearings in it last summer and everything is still in good shape.



Looking at trades for a 63/68-66/73 sized secondary or a primary around 80mm.



i also have a 46mm precision wastegate that could go as well if im getting a gated secondary. Pm me any offers please:st:

Trying to find some info on the use of a T-6 turbine vs a T-4.. When is bigger better?




DT360 swap

New to the site and looking for some advice/tips. I'm in the early stages of swapping a DT360A into an 85 GMC 2500 4x4. I have an nv4500 I'd really like to put behind it if possible. looks like i'm going with a 6.4...the 6.7s are still a little pricey for me so which tuner do you reccomend for the 6.4....seems mini maxx and spartan are the most popular...opinions??

Crank No Start

Who has seen a crank no start on a 1999 Vp-44 and it was a bad PCM ?



Ran through the test on Bluechip diesel, cut shut down solenoid power. Hooked power and ground straight to pump and truck start and ran.



Varying voltage on pin 4 and pin 8 of the connector. The only thing I couldn't test was the can-bus going to pump.



First swapped ECM still crank no start.



Swapped PCM then it fired right up and idled. My question what inputs go through the PCM and communicate to the ECM.



My only assumption is something on the CAN circuit was telling the truck no to run.



Just interested in some personal experiences as why. No faulty sensors or circuits.




Fan hub spacer?

Does anyone know if a hub is being made that would put the fan further away from my engine so I can have the clearance to run a waterman pump? I'm not wanting to run electric fans just because I prefer to keep everything mechanical and if a spacer can be had, it seems like it would be a cheaper route.




Big cam cummins mods gov spring

I was wondering if there is any place around that still sells governor springs for these big cams. I've heard of the all popular purple spring but can't seem to find one. I understand I could shim the spring but I'm not going to get the same result as changing the spring. I've ready drilled the ball out on the shaft and installed a #5 button. Also I have a ht4b on my truck as well. This truck is just a toy I take to shows and fairs and the most I will prolly tow with it is my pulling tractor. Thanks hope someone can send me in the right direction.

6.0 problems running

first off im a dodge guy but was a diesel mechanic for 6 yrs on big trucks. my family has a 05 6.0 that was having trouble starting and especially when it was hot. took to ford they diagnosed and said hpop needed re sealed. so I tore apart resealed pump resealed ipr and new screen and put new stand pipes and dummy plugs in it. put all back together cranked on it and fired up. let run for about 15 min or so to let get warm went back out there and revved it up about 5 times and on the 5th time it just cut off like you cut the key off and will not even hit a lick now just turns over? any thoughts from yall ford experts??? I have no computer or program to test sensors thanks in advance




12 valve into 24 valve truck

I'm sure there's people out there that have done this, I have the 12 valve in the 24 valve truck I have both 12 and 24 valve engine harnesses, and cab harnesses I'm struggling to get the dash gauges to work, am I better to use the 24 valve harnesses or what will work, any help is appreciated, thanks




KDEL question

so I thought that the nut on them was M27x1.50 but the nut dosnt want to screw in the freshly tapped hole and when I measure my tap it is .020" smaller then the threads on the KDEL nut. Checked the pitch it is correct.

Powerstroke 6.0 Starts, Runs, Then starts missing and then DIES!!!

Hi Everybody



Im at a loss with figuring this out. My Truck will start up run perfect then it starts misfiring and then it get so bad and stall out. Sometimes white smoke sometime it doesn't. It does smell like raw diesel.



Now i have deleted the EGR. No coolant loss.



Fuel Pressure is holding 58PSI when is does stall.



The IPR is like 32% if i remember Correctly.



The ICP is reading normal. It goes up to about 900-1000 PSI when it stalls.



The Ficm Is 48V all through out.



I have done the bulletproofing myself. I did the HPOP and HPO Branch Tubes.



Also i get one code. P0269 - Cylinder 3 Contribution/Balance

But if i shut down that injector it does run different so i no the injector is working. I Hooked up a snap on modis and did a buzz test and it all checks out.



The only thing i can think of is Injectors But im not someone to throw parts at it and find out its not it.



Please any/suggestions are welcomed.

I really need Help with this thing.

S366 Turbo

:st: Well I just got this turbo from Forced Induction its a S366 /74/91 I would like to know what upgrades I would need I went to the cummins forum and it seems like its an obscure turbo but a good friend recommended it for me. So I went and bought it but I would like to know what supporting mods I need so far I have AFC tuned no smoke, 4gsk, Built Tranny, is a 1997 12 valve Cali model, EGR Blocked 2WD. I will be getting a DTT mechanical pump in the near future to make sure its getting Fuel. I really appreciate any input

47RH full manual valve body $375 shipped

The valve body started out as a full manual 47RH from BD. It now has a Goerend separator plate in it to enable 2nd gear lockup.



I lent it out and it ran around in a CR Fummins for the last year. I would guess 5-600hp. The owner got tired of manually shifting and went with a PCS and suncoast VB .



It currently has a 48RE lockup/OD solenoid pack and transmission electrical connector on it, but if needed I can change it to the original 47RH solenoid pack and connector.

Hx40 core. Bad comp housing

Im selling this hx40 as a core as its compressor housing is chewed up, and i think i lost the bolts and straps to connect exhaust housing to cartridge. I cant remember if the comp wheel is a 56 or 58. Has the 64 exhaust wheel and 18cm t4 exhaust housing.

California offroader

Hi Guys, I'm a long time diesel guy and offroader, so naturally they blended together. I've had a couple of really well suspended trucks, and currently have an 06 common rail. I get a ton of good suspension info on DTX forum, but I'm over here for the the HP side of things.

Normal tapped HRVP?

Truck is an 02, built auto, 250hp inj, HRVP, Hamilton cam, edge CTS JWA along with air and other supporting mods. Recently had it in the shop for some tranny issues and had them go ahead and tap the pump. The truck had a heavy lope after driving it home. Didnt do it for the guys at the shop but they only test drove a short distance. I've adjusted all the low boost fueling up and down and run the edge on 0 and it does not make a difference. I know with the fuel mods this truck has it is prone to lope. Just not sure why it started now. Didn't think the edge was effecting anything on 0??

KTS HX40 compressor wheel

Looking at this KTS wheel that is a replacement for the HX40. Going off the ad, he says the specs are 56/83.03, 7/7 blade, and looks like it has ETT. Anyone know how much of an upgrade this is compared to the other "billet" upgrade wheels? Flow rating? Looking at pairing it with an hx40 76x64 12 blade turbine wheel.

Anyone know if a cylinder head off a 2010 6.7 qsb will work on a 6.7 truck (07.5)?

Another stupid 48RE question?!

Tranny started making noise on take off and has a distinct clunk going into reverse. Like a bad ujoint but it's internal? When put in reverse drive shaft turns more than half a turn and clunks? What inside could have that much movement or could have broke? But still be drivable?

6.4 fuel issues

New to the comp d website because I have an issue with my 6.4. Driving to work the other day, truck stalled and would not restart. I changed the fuel filters 2 days prior to the truck stalling. It ran fine with no issues until I got to work and it died. Did a little troubleshooting by opening up the top fuel filter to see if I was getting any fuel. All that was coming out is little fuel shots with mostly air bubbles. So I moved to the HFCM to see if fuel was getting there. Usually take a bath in fuel but I opened up the lower fuel filter and there was no fuel to that. When the key is turned on it sounds like it's priming but I suppose it could still run even if just pumping air. I regularly change my filters at 6000 miles and drain the separator at least bi weekly. I'm leaning toward the lift pump but I just would like some things to think about. Thanks

2001 pistons and flycutting

Can the oem pistons be flycut without any reliability issues? If so whats the max amount safely? Thanx for any input...




Homier "farm pro" 2420 tractor help please

the Girlfriends cousin has one of these 3 cylinder diesel tractors for racking there arena, anyways it wont run and not sure why, wont to see if anyone here can help.



it used to run fine and then kinda die off after a few turns around the arena, if he would hurry and pump up the fuel primer it would go again for a few more runs.



the other day it would start fine and run for about 45 seconds then die.



so he thought the lift pump was bad, put a cheap electric "mr gasket" diesel pump feeding the factory Lp . still wont run.



(cracked the fuel lines and it sprays out so it seams to be getting plenty of fuel)



any help?

1996 fummins transfer case help 47re

I have a 1996 f250 and I want to put the dodge transmission in it but I don't know to get my four wheel drive up and working. Can I somehow put my ford transfer case back on the 47re. I need help with this I'm really stick on the whole thing. Probably already been answered but I was just wondering if I could get any help. The motor is behind a 12v cummins.

WTT for a 47RH and tcase

I have a 2003 Superduty D60 complete hub to hub minus lockouts. I was going to swap this under my P-pumped 98, but decided I wanted to swap it to an auto instead.



I'm looking for something that's rebuildable, not completely trashed. I'd prefer an NP271, but will take an NP241 too.




4020 took a dump. Ideas?

Driving the 4020 the other day. Just left the cattle lot after putting out a hay bale. Mid RPM's in 5th gear, just cruising through the pasture road.



The engine let out a squeal, locked up, shut the entire tractor down in a quick second. After getting my ass back in the seat, I put it in park. I hit the starter and it turns over, just slower than normal....and seems a little out of balance.



What should I check first? Think I lost the cam gear off the front end? It acts like I don't have any fuel now. It won't even try to fire. Seems cam related.



Any advice before I spin my wheels on it?

56-57 chevy 3100, what do you think?

I have always wanted a 56-57 chevy short bed pickup, as luck would have it my neighbor has one that has been sitting in his back yard since 1985. He drove it to the spot it sits and parked it bc it wasn't very good in the snow. I had inquired about it again over the weekend and he asked if I would give him $400 for it. I think it is worth it, but let me know what you all think. my plan has always been to obtain a truck like this and get it running and driving. over time do body work and then drop in a 4B with a manual trans. floor pans are solid, cab corners need replace, drivers side bed has a rust hole, engine bay is rust free, all door seems are solid, frame is solid.

48RE Transmission Help

I know just enough about transmissions to be dangerous. I sent mine out to have it rebuilt, converter gone through, etc. Got it back and installed and pulled it out of the driveway and it kills the truck. Converter locks up and if you put your foot on the brake pedal to stop, truck dies. Builder said could be converter or Lockup solenoid. So I drop the pan and valve body and replace the lockup/OD solenoid pack and the photos below are what I found in the pan. Transmission only has about 2000 feet, yes that is feet on it. Solenoid did not fix the problem so I am sure the converter is junk and not sure what else is trashed in the transmission.

New here... I've been on another forum with no results...to date this is what has happened. 2003 dodge 2500 4x4 ALL STOCK. I have code 2149. I replaced all injectors, only to have to replace them again with a different brand due to the first ones being junk remans. After installing the second set, I had to replace 2 of those. Started truck and it had a serious Lope and slight fuel knock on take off. After a day or so the lope went away but still had slight fuel knock. I took it out on the road and stretched it out. Truck ran great, no smoke of any color. Check engine light came on after it hit operating temp, lost 3 cylinders, and limped home. Checked codes, have 2149 again. I have replaced the wiring harness for the number 5 and 6 injectors. I have ohmed all harness's from the ECM to the injectors All have checked good. Does ANYONE have any insight? I think my next step is to replace the ECM???

So for my motor build I have a colt stage 5 cam.. A lot of people are telling me to run common rail tappets? And then I have a lot of people telling me there's no benefit so I should just run stock 24 valve tappets.. Just wanted to gather some opinions before I purchase a set of tappets. Thanks

4x4 ext cab long bed 12.0?

I aquired a 96 ext cab long bed 4x4 truck... I want to build a daily, weekend strip truck that not only I can enjoy but my wife and son. My intention was to build a 2wd standard cab in my SIG which I've almost completed but it might sound dumb but its more fun for the family to enjoy it with me.. I'm not to familiar with 2nd gens... I've had 1st gens my whole life... is my goal out of the question? Any opinions are appreciated. I don't even though how much the truck weights. I'm the type of guy that would rather have a lighter truck with a engine with less hp than a heavy truck with higher HP... what is a realistic goal weight for the truck. I know I'm starting with the wrong truck lol.. thanks guys

ALH Transmission

I'm going to get a new gearbox coming this week for my Jetta. Does anyone know about the trans codes? Every one I see is EGR, but I find where the hell it is stamped on the trans. Additionally, does anyone know what will interchange?



Follow up question, I'm having some trouble getting our SB distributor to actually get back to me about getting just a disk. Has anyone done that and know how much they are?

Watercooled Precision 67 Help

I was curious if anyone else on here is running a precision ball bearing on their 2nd gen 24v at all, and if so how are they routing their coolant into the turbo? I find it easiest to pull that freeze-plug in the head right between cyl 3&4 and run a braided line into one side of the turbo, but where should it then drain to? It's very similar if i'm not mistaken to plumbing in a coolant bypass common on third gens no? Any help would be appreciated, I'm trying to make this as clean of an install as possible being that this is my unmolested daily, and not my 12v race project on the back burner.

Need reassurance on my thinking, manual to auto swap.

Ok so I bought me a p pump 24v for work and my 98 will be going under the knife for like the 10th time lol.



So I'm thinking about ditching my 6 speed and going the auto.



First off I want it to look factory swap out the colum dash and pedals.



I found a local wrecked 97 12v with an ats tranny. So my thinking is pull the tranny PCM , wiring harness and tps/ kick down cable. Put all that crap on my truck and it should shift correctly or am I overlooking something.



Also I'm aware of driveshafts input differences etc. just want to make sure it will shift correctly. Thanks guys

Low fuel pressure under load.

Hello guys. I have the 94 in my signature. I have searched and looking for some help with low fuel pressure under load. The truck has a Vulcan dual feed line 1/2 feed line from filter to dual feed. I have an adjustable tork tec overflow valve. The truck at idle no load sees 32psi. The lift pump is a cummins with less than 5k miles on it. Revved up in neutral sees 40psi. I have deleted the fuel heater also. Driving the truck no boost 35psi of fuel pressure. When you floor the truck it drops to 0 psi. Let off the throttle and fuel pressure restores. Is there any other common air leak spots in the fuel system? I appreciate the help.

Blue Chip vp44 (the best model they offer with the new board, etc) I bought new and was always fed by a FASS 150. After having some issues, it was replaced with a new pump.. only to have the same issues (turned out to be a non pump related issue). Smooth start and smooth idle ... no ticks or stumbles. Smells normal . Timing should be 22-24 but not checked. Runs well.

6.7 into a 5.9

Read a bunch of threads but no answer found! Looking to put a short block 6.7 with all the 5.9 parts. Head, ecm, etc.... My question is can the whole 6.7 be used? Is the head better than the 5.9? Injectors better? Will the sensors all work with the 5.9 ECM? Injector harnesses plug into the 06 harness? Anything I missed? Seems the 6.7 has more torque so is it worth doing?

47RH Lockup in first!

Long story short, I did the swap in my First gen a month ago. Truck ran perfect. Did first service at around 950miles. Normal shavings in pan.



Took truck to the track, At the line i was at about 10PSI and truck wanted to launch hard... Come to find out, my converter was locking and unlocking in 1st gear.... manually shifted through gears and unlocked at end of track with manual LU switch



2nd run, Converter locked up at the line and never unlocked... All forward gears stall truck and Rev is the same. I have unplugged all connectors as well and still the same



I was told i blew sprag in Converter... But at this point not sure if it wasn't something in trans. Cause i have metal shavings galore in pan...



DPC Billet Triple Disk converter brand new.





Any ideas?

well i sold my 250 about 4 years ago now and i've decided it's time to get back into another one...i was pretty familiar with the 6.0 and built that motor from the ground up...this go around i'm not looking to dive in so far..just plan on doing deletes, intake/exhaust and a tuner....my question is which motor should i go with the 6.4 or 6.7...want power not looking for a race truck...advice on motor and also what mods it needs would be appreciated

First off, great site..Glad to be here



Im from the Tampa Bay area(Pinellas Co.), Ive got a 08 Ram 6.7 that I love. Its 2wd so Im talking the lowered pro street sorta look to it(My area is 90% asphalt so why not).





I plan on adding more air by swapping out the stock vgt charger for a 366 or 464/5. Stock fuel for now, Im gonna stud it and try to figure out what avenue of attack to take on the transmission(built the 68, swap to g56, swap a 48re etc etc)..the G56 approach sounds kinda nice. From what I hear they hold up real well. Im only looking for around 650ish hp so with a good clutch it should hold real well.

Got a chance to stretch out the new setup on the competition rifle a bit before the season begins.



This was an 8" steel plate at 415 yards.. There were several people who shoot rarely, and every single person was able to keep it on the steel easily... Even with a little wind!
